Position Overview
Summary
Access Veterinary Care is a veterinary clinic that focuses on providing affordable, accessible care for families in Minnesota, Wisconsin, and the surrounding areas. Through community medicine that prioritizes quality, efficiency, and flexible care options, we believe that we can help reduce the burden of medical care and help keep animals with their families.
What we’re looking for:
Access Veterinary Care is seeking a veterinary technician who wants to practice in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. We are primarily an urgent care clinic providing affordable outpatient veterinary care, with strong opportunities for professional growth and skill development.
As a veterinary technician at Access Veterinary Care, you’ll play a central role in patient care by assisting veterinarians with sick and injured patients, running laboratory diagnostics, monitoring anesthesia for sedated procedures, assisting with surgery, performing dental radiographs and prophylaxis, communicating with clients, and carrying out treatments under veterinary supervision.
We’re looking for technicians who want greater autonomy in case management. The ideal candidate enjoys client education, direct patient care, and practicing to the full extent of their training. Experienced technicians will have opportunities to learn and display advanced technical skills, including placing skin sutures, applying bandages and splints, performing thoracocentesis, and more.
Main Job Duties:
- Patient Care: Provide hands-on care for urgent, routine, and surgical patients, including restraint, triage, physical assessments, diagnostics, treatments, medication administration, IV fluid therapy, CPR, and humane euthanasia under DVM supervision.
- Anesthesia & Surgery: Assist with routine and emergency surgeries; perform anesthesia monitoring, intubation, local anesthetic blocks, dental radiographs, and dental prophylaxis.
Diagnostics: Collect and properly handle laboratory samples; perform in-house diagnostics; prepare samples for referral laboratories; and obtain digital radiographs. - Client Education: Educate clients on nutrition, wellness, medications, anesthetic consent and discharge instructions, and chronic disease management while communicating clearly and compassionately as part of the veterinary team.
- Pharmacy: Maintain the in-house formulary, coordinate prescription refills, process online prescriptions, and accurately fill medications using the “Five Rights” of medication administration.
Preventative Care: Assist with preventative care and wellness services under the direct supervision of a DVM.
Qualifications:
- 1-3 years working in veterinary medicine
- Licensed Veterinary Technician or eligible for licensure
