Anesthesia Technician

Join Ocean State Veterinary Specialists (OSVS) as an Anesthesia technician, where you’ll play a key role in advancing clinical excellence across our emergency and specialty services.

We are seeking a Veterinary Technician to serve as an anesthetist in our surgery and imaging departments.

Our ideal candidate believes that veterinary medicine is a team sport—someone who values collaboration, professional growth, and delivering the highest level of care to patients and clients. If you have experience with general anesthesia, have strong organizational and communication skills, and thrive in a supportive, fast-paced environment, we’d love to meet you.

Position Overview

The anesthesia technician is responsible for monitoring anesthetized patients across a wide range of specialty services—from stable patients undergoing elective diagnostic procedures to critically ill patients requiring lifesaving surgery. This role offers a high level of autonomy and the opportunity to continually develop advanced anesthesia and nursing skills.  Anesthesia technicians work closely with surgeons, oncologists, neurologists, and the Emergency & Critical Care (ECC) team to ensure optimal patient outcomes.  As a teaching hospital, new employees will receive a comprehensive training program tailored to their current level of skill and knowledge.  New employees will receive support and guidance during the initial training period and beyond.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities

  • Set the standard for professionalism, patient care, and client service
  • Evaluate anesthetic risk and anticipate patient needs
  • Administer medications, fluids, CRIs, analgesics, and blood products as indicated
  • Accurately calculate medication dosages and fluid boluses
  • Perform IV catheter placement, anesthetic induction, and endotracheal intubation
  • Utilize advanced monitoring equipment and respond appropriately to patient parameters
  • Operate anesthetic ventilators, rebreathing, and non-rebreathing systems
  • Provide thorough post-anesthetic patient care
  • Train and mentor veterinary staff in technical skills and industry best practices

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience as a veterinary technician
  • Associate degree in Veterinary Technology or related field preferred
  • Active veterinary technician certification preferred
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Strong veterinary knowledge and technical skill set
  • Compassionate, patient-focused mindset
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Strong organizational, multitasking, and prioritization skills
  • Ability to remain calm and effective in high-stress situations
