Upcoming CE Webinar: Addressing Cognitive Decline in Older Pets
Free RACE-Approved Veterinary Webinar with Dr. Margaret Gruen on June 4, 2025
As pets live longer, veterinarians increasingly encounter age-related behavioral changes. Recognizing and managing cognitive decline is essential for enhancing the quality of life for these animals and their caregivers.
To assist veterinarians in navigating this complex subject, Vet and Tech is pleased to introduce an upcoming free veterinary CE webinar online, "Meeting the Challenge of Cognitive Decline in Older Pets," presented by esteemed behaviorist Dr. Margaret Gruen, DVM, MVPH, PhD, DACVB. The live event will occur on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, at 8:00 PM (US Eastern Time) and will award 1 RACE-approved CE credit.
This interactive session is just one part of Vet and Tech's ongoing mission to provide free online continuing education (CE) to veterinarians, addressing both the scientific breakthroughs and practical techniques required for contemporary clinical practice. General practitioners, behaviorists, and all clinicians will find value in Dr. Gruen's professional perspectives on cognitive dysfunction syndrome (CDS). This underdiagnosed and frequently misunderstood condition affects the quality of life for older pets and their families.
Understanding Aging Pet Behavior Changes
Cognitive dysfunction in pets can manifest subtly, including disorientation, altered sleep-wake cycles, decreased interaction, and house soiling. These behavior changes in senior pets are becoming more common, yet distinguishing CDS from other age-related conditions remains challenging.
Dr. Gruen will discuss early recognition of these signs, the use of validated behavior-scoring tools, and strategies for managing pet memory loss. Her evidence-based approach aims to improve the well-being of pets experiencing cognitive decline
