Why Pet Travel Readiness Matters for Veterinary Teams
Pet travel requests are becoming a regular part of veterinary practice, yet many clinics handle them without standardized training or consistent workflows. A veterinary health certificate for pet travel is often treated as the finish line, but it is only one piece of the process.
Airline rules, destination requirements, and the animal's own fitness for transport all shape whether a trip goes smoothly. When a clinic gets involved only at the final paperwork appointment, issues with pet air travel requirements may come to light when there is little time left to address them.
This webinar draws on preliminary findings from the When Pets Fly Veterinary Pet Travel Education Interest Survey. It looks at how clinics schedule travel appointments, what types of requests they receive, and where teams report the least confidence when advising clients on international pet travel.
What You'll Learn
- Typical pet travel preparation requests that veterinary teams receive
- The least understood pet travel requirement
- Common mistakes in pet travel preparation
- Why a health certificate does not automatically mean a pet is ready to travel
- How welfare-centered travel preparation goes beyond the health certificate
- The role of the veterinary team in pet travel planning, starting well before the final paperwork appointment
- How to build safety, consistency, and confidence into travel case management
- How to use the When Pets Fly Pet Travel Readiness Assessment, an emerging approach to pet travel assessment for veterinary teams
Attendees can use the session as a starting point for a clinic pet travel checklist that supports earlier, more informed client conversations.
